The Rheumatology department is a highly specialized and modernly equipped part of the Institute Niška Banja whose main goal is prevention, diagnostics and treatment of rheumatic diseases (inflammatory rheumatism, connective tissue disease, degenerative, extra-articular or metabolic rheumatism).
One of five referential institutions for modern treatment and care of rheumatic patients in Serbia.
Specialized clinical and in-hospital healthcare in the field of rheumatic diseases is carried out on the General Care ward, Semi-Intensive care unit, and specialists clinic.
The General Care ward has 40 beds, while semi-intensive care has six beds. Within Rheumatology there are successful units for osteodensitometry, musculoskeletal ultrasound, capillaroscopy, MRI and intra-articular arthrocentesis.
The department’s day hospital has adopted the latest approach in the treatment of inflammatory and metabolic arthropaties using biological therapy and parenteral bisphosphonates.
Rheumatology has a clinic where inflammatory arthropaties can be diagnosed in early stages and treated with right drug therapy that changes the course of the illness.
The state-of-the-art medical equipment for non-invasive diagnostics includes a digital bone densitometer, a stereo capillaroscopy, a MRI, a musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Our rheumatologists are the authors of many studies and most of them have been published in international magazines and other publications. They are the authors of monographs and chapters in the Internal Medicine (Medical Faculty, University of Niš). As the researchers in many international and domestic projects and clinical studies, they are active participants in many domestic and international scientific gatherings.
The Medical Faculty of the University of Niš uses the Institute’s Rheumatology as a teaching base for internal medicine, rheumatology and balneoclimatology. Every day many doctors, students, and other medical staff get to practice medicine during the course of their general, specialist, sub-specialist, and doctoral studies.
The traditional biennial Rheumatology Symposium is held in high esteem by the medical community in Serbia and abroad as well.
