This is a non-invasive method where blood pressure is monitored over 24-hour period (sometimes even longer). It monitors blood pressure oscillation during normal every day activities. The method is non-invasive, harmless and carries no risk.
It records the average blood pressure over 24 hours as well as day, night and morning values in order to diagnose disease, determine the effect of therapy, assess the risk of complication.
The holter device measures arterial pressure analysing pulse waves and estimates the elasticity of arterial walls (age, rigidity, the degree of arteriosclerosis). Independent from your psyche, conscious or sub-conscious influence, it records the exact values of blood pressure (physiological oscillations) during the day and night and all that for the purpose of early detection of hypertension, deciding on therapy, dosage and time, and assessment of the therapy’s effectivness.
This method is used on patients with great blood pressure fluctuation, borderline hypertension, white coat hypertension, possible hypertension during sleep or episodes of low blood pressure.
